There is a ritual associated with low-cost flying: remote parking, priority boarding, oversized rolling suitcases squeezed into overhead lockers, endless waiting followed by a sudden rush to board or disembark. It may seem careless, but it is actually the result of endless optimization.

Low-cost flying has democratised access to affordable travel. It is now so readily available that the extraordinary act of taking to the skies is almost reduced to a footnote. This series was photographed at Kastrup, watching flight U28265, from London Gatwick - Copenhagen, disembark.
